Dual Monitor Desk Setup Ideas – Optimize Productivity & Comfort

Dual monitor desk setup

Sitting on your computer for a long time can be tiring. Things get much worse when you don’t have a good workstation. However, if you turn the tables a bit, you can boost your productivity and take it to new heights.

No kidding! Ask your friends. Things like dual monitors can increase your productivity within a snap. It’s more like researching different things at the same time, using two computers.

However, you need to know the best way to set up dual monitors on the desk though. Otherwise, your monitors may trip over and you’ll need to break your bank.

And that’s what we’re going to talk about today. You’re about to go through all the nooks and crannies on the dual monitor desk setup. Let’s roll.

Dual Monitors Desk Setup – Best Way to Setup Dual Monitors on Desk

First off, we’re going to cover how to set up dual monitors on a desk in the best way possible. Read the steps and create your new desk setup.

Be on a Natural Posture

First thing’s first. You’ll need to sit comfortably on your chair. A lot of people prefer to sit like how they sit in a car. You should keep your feet on the floor while your hands should be in your lap. Make sure your shoulders are relaxing even when you’re leaning back.

Feeling comfortable? Awesome. Congrats! You’re having a natural posture. In this way, your vertebrae will stay stacked. Most importantly, as you breathe, your entire back will move. Your pelvis will stay in such a way that your spine will stay stacked properly.

Take Care of Your Keyboard and Mouse

Take Care of Your Keyboard and Mouse

If your keyboard and mouse aren’t placed correctly, you won’t be able to work comfortably. Position them in such a way that your elbows stay to your sides while your arms stay below or at a 90-degree angle. In this way, you won’t be straining and the muscle load will decrease.

Keep the keyboard in such a way that it stays 2’’ above your thighs. To do this, you can use a pull-out keyboard tray. However, you can also lower your desk a bit if you want.

As for the mouse, the distance between it and the keyboard should be more like a shoulder-distance. Keep it as level as possible for extra convenience.

Position the Monitors Properly

Things would be pretty easier if you had 3 monitors though. We mean, it’s pretty easy to pick a primary monitor, keep it in such a way that it’s facing you while the other two monitors stay on your left and on your right.

Position the Monitors Properly

However, when it comes to dual-monitors, we got to think of something that follows the middle path. You have to make sure both the monitors should be placed somewhere in the center. They should stay in such a way that it feels like the monitors are surrounding you.

Decide Where Should the Second Monitor Go

You go to keep your dual monitors as tight as possible. However, it’s up to you whether you’ll keep your second monitor on your right, left, above, or beneath the primary one.

If you ask us, we don’t recommend keeping your second monitor above at all.  This is because if you bend your neck upwards, and you have to, it’s not ergonomic.

What about keeping the monitor below the primary one? Well, we don’t recommend that too either. In this case, you’ll have to tilt your neck a lot, which won’t be much of a good experience for you.

That leaves us either left or right. You can choose either one side for your second monitor to go. But like we said, keep both of your monitors in such a way that it seems both of them are in the center.

Bonus- Switch Between Vertical and Horizontal Monitor Setups

Who says you’ll have to keep your monitors horizontally all the time though? Time to think beyond the traditional dual monitor desk setup sometimes. There are monitors available in the market which you can keep vertically.

If your one doesn’t have this feature, you can use a simple mount to solve your problem. In this way, you can just keep one monitor, maybe the primary one horizontal, and the other one vertical. Or, you can keep both vertical if you want, though it’s not recommended.

How to Fit Two Monitors on a Small Desk- Dual Monitor Limited Desk Space!

So, unfortunately, you got a tiny desk and you don’t have the money to buy a bigger one right now. But you want to use dual monitors for your work. Feel like crying already? No worries mate. We’ll tell you how you can fit two monitors on your small desk. Here’s what you need to do.

Use A Monitor Arm

Dual Monitor Arm

You can use a monitor arm if you want the monitors to sit nicely on your tiny desk. You can just hook the arm onto the bottom of your monitor. This will create a solid moveable hook. If your monitor has got clamps, that’s an extra plus for you. Because it will keep the support sturdy.

Use the Cable Grommet

If you can use the grommet of your cable, it can get you the right spot so that you can fit the dual monitors on a desk with space issues. However, you need to make sure that the display stand fits through the grommet.

First off, detach the mount of the display. Now put it in the slot of the grommet. Once you’re done, screw the monitor onto the grommet. Voila!

Go V-Shaped

V-Shaped dual monitor

If you can keep your monitors on your table in a v-shaped way, you’ll get a lot of space pretty easily. If you want to do this, you’ll have to place your desk against your room’s corner.

Afterward, place one monitor on the larger end of the table while the other one goes to the smaller dimension. You’ll get impressed to see how the two monitors will fit in.

Create an Extra Space

So you tried everything but nothing’s working. Here’s something you can do. You can attach an extra piece of wood beside the desk and fasten it with screws. Make sure it doesn’t get loose in any way. If the wood is robust enough, it should be able to handle the weight of your monitor. This might not be the best desk setup for two monitors, but you’ll live.

Wrapping Up!

So that was pretty much everything on the dual monitor desk setup. Try all the steps we’ve mentioned and you won’t have a hard time setting up your new dual monitors.
